I don't know if I have ever really been kind to my body. 38 years of neglect and abuse pretty much. Eating things that are bad for me and that provide no nurishment. Drinking too much and the like. I really believe if I keep going on the way I have that I wont make it much past 60. But more than that, I'm not making the most of my time here on earth RIGHT NOW.

I have done 3 classes of Bikram in the past week. I already feel much more alive.
Bikram found me, I was not searching for it. People get put in your path just when you need. A friend once said to me that if I was to channel all my energy into something that was good for me, AMAZING things would happen.
I'm going to do my very best to get to 3 classes a week, I already have a spring in my step and I want more! Body, Mind & Spirit.

Letting Go

The little lady is now in childcare one day a week. I feel torn. One part of me says YIPPPEEEE!!!! and the other struggles with letting go. I believe we bring children into the world to love, nurture, protect & provide stability. Ultimately though they are their own being/soul and need to be able to be set free. I've got to start somewhere and this is where we are at. Bloody mother guilt - it's never enough...

I've been walking daily again and god it feels good. Clears the head and gets my blood pumping.
I love my coffee and I think it's pretty ace that Sime has just designed a new logo for our AWESOME local cafe Bent.

I'm feeling the need to create, so I have decided to do a little zine called, "My Chucks & I". Stay tuned - I'll probably make 5 or 10 copies. Did you know you can make a little book from your instagram pictures? How good is that!!

Loving the idea of fabric covered Hula Hoops, and speaking of Hula Hoops there is an awesome little company called Hoop Lovers. I'm gonna get some of my girlfriends together and have a party!!

I love Wagons, no surprise there I know!! I have not banged on about them for quite a while now, so I thought it was about time I showed my love for them again.

They are playing a gig at The Forum here in Melbourne tomorrow night and I can't wait!! The Forum is such a beautiful venue.

I have just finished making another 20 limited edition Henry voodoo dolls for the gig - he is wearing a grey headband this time.

This is the current single, and they are filming tomorrows nights gig for the new Willie Nelson film clip.

Also here is a great interview with Henry @ SXSW. - love that boy ;)

I am no longer a red head! I have been red since I don't know when, except in my punk stage at 17 when I went black for a short time. I love the colour, but it's going to take a bit of getting used to. I feel like Samanthas twin sister Sabrina!!

I got some new pink chucks - man I love them, I would have them in every colour if I could afford it!

I am enjoying delving into unknown territory and exploring Charkras and energy fields. There is so much more to life than I see and I want to know more! The older I get the more I realise how little I know, and that is OK!

Went to The Community Cup on Sunday. Had a ball as always. Tumbleweed played at half time and I was right up the front!
I went back in time to my early 20's. I'd just moved back to Melbourne and was living in Carlton and The Punters was my home away from home. Tumbleweed, You Am I & Powderfinger were my staple...
Back to reality - and here was my 6 year old girl and her little friend dancing to Tumbleweed -- very strange!

Saturday night my friend Roni celebrated her 40th birthday and I pulled the heels out from under the bed and dusted them off!

Loving: 3 things and will be adding mine to the site in the next couple of days.

The girls and I were housebound today. I am always rushing from here to there, so it was nice to just be at home and do what needed to be done around the house.
I'm slowly starting to understand the benefits of a simpler life.

Family, Friends & participating in my community-is what matters.

It's been soooo cold here in Melbourne. Early nights rugged up on the couch (or in bed) watching TV, talking and or reading. Hot chocolates have made a comeback and we are about to crank up our fire place, I love winter.

Heading: To the annual Community Cup to see my two favorite bands of the 90's - You AM I and Tumbleweed! woooot!

I went with a group of friends to see & hear the Dalai Lama speak yesterday. What a beautiful man, full of wisdom and a great sense of humor. There were something like 5 thousand people in the room and you could of heard a pin drop.

I walked lots

I just turned 38 and I feel like a BIG shift is happening. I am about to do a Reiki 1 course and I feel like I'm connecting with some great people. Finding a balance between family & work seems to be sorting itself out and I am reaching out to people I care about. I'm writing an article for Spoonful on Gratitude for their next issue and I've been writing 5 things I am grateful for each day ( I did that for years so it's good to be focused on that again). When I have gratitude in my heart, it's much harder to be down.

Nothing beats shopping locally. Now it's no secret I love my local fabric shop amitie! I mean I went in today to buy some Daisy fabric I had seen online and came out with my fabric and also with a quilt pattern drawn up.
So not only did I get to touch and see the fabric colour and texture in real life but I got help with putting a quilt together. You know I'm prepared to pay for that service. Thanks Judy xx

Really making headway on my Block Of The Month! I only started it 18 months ago!!!
It really is testing my skills and I am enjoying seeing the blocks come together.
Lot's of hand piecing and needle turn applique going on here. I am working on it with great gusto!

Went to Spotters before work on Saturday to check out the cheaper line Denyse Schmidt designed form them. I picked up a few...

Stitch'O'Rama, My Girls & NY

The first Stitch'o'Rama was held at Mulgrave last Wednesday. It's nice to be part of a group again. Last year threw some pearlers at me and only now am I beginning to feel like myself again.

Loving the cold weather, reading, quilting and catching up with friends.

The UBER talented Lea from h&b foto.graphic took some shots of my family - we have got the proofs back and they are all so good. We are so very happy with the photos and will definitely use her again - highly recommend!

Oh and Sime & I are going to NY for our 40th birthday's (2 years to save). He doesn't know this yet, a girl has got to have dreams.

I have just finished reading "Let The Great World Spin" for bookclub and it is one of the BEST books I have ever read. Have you read it? Love to hear your thoughts.

Caught up with Nic & Fi on Saturday night - we did a bit of stitching and alot of catching up. I miss our regular catch ups. Nic gave me my Dr Suess socks that have been THREE years in the making and well worth the wait.

I also got my first ever pair of UGG boots for my birthday. I tell you they are soo damn fine that I would wear them 24/7 if I could...

I'm doing some work with the Mulgrave Makers Market. It's a not for profit organisation that falls under The Wise Foundation. We are starting a social stitching night next week.

The littlest girl turned ONE today. I can't believe how quickly this year has flown.
I also celebrated my 38th birthday this week. I flew back to Adelaide to spend sometime with my mum and caught up with family.

A week or so ago I felt the urge to make a tribute quilt to my late father. Dad passed away in Oct last year and he was a mad Richmond Tigers supporter. He also adored his two grandchildren. So I am making a black & yellow quilt in mostly children's fabric. The backing fabric will be a white and black polka dot.

New Chapter

Late 2009 I started my Bizness Babes course in Mulgrave. Bizness Babes is a not for profit organisation that help mums with young children get a good grounding on business /enhance their business skills. I was with a group of about 14 women and not only did I learn some important information but I made some life long friends.
I was in the early stages of my pregnancy when the course started and often felt quite ill - so the group went through it all with me. We had lots of laughter, tears and major revelations! I graduated in May of 2010 (group 9) and I still meet with my business mentor ( who is about to have her first baby) on a regular basis.
I got to meet and get to know a group of women with whom I may not have ever met in the real world -- I learnt that we are all unique and have different things to offer and that if we work together, the sky is the limit!
So it is pretty cool now to be doing some freelance work for the Bizness Babes team.
I will be looking after all the social networking side of things:

Curve Action

I've been sick the past couple of days - just the normal melbourne cold type thing, aches & pains and a headache from hell. This afternoon I felt a surge of energy and tuned that into finishing of my Single Girl Pillow. I think there are two more weeks on the quilt along - but when the urge strikes....

I started my original single girl quilt years ago and this quilt along has given me the kick up the arse to finish it! Just gotta pull it out of the fabric pile. Thanks ladies for organising it. More Single Girl projects here

first day worrking for a boss lady!

I've worked from home for the past 4 years , so going out of the house to work yesterday was AWESOME! Just one day a week, nice and manageable.
I caught the train in and listened to Johnny Depp reading Keith Richards book "Life" to me on my iphone. I got a coffee and sat in the park for a while before I actually started the day.
Bec from Little Shop & I met a couple of years ago through mixtape and pretty much instantly became friends. Her shop is just divine - and it feels great to be surrounded by all the loveliness. They also have a little online store.
Pilgrim of draw pilgrim dropped in some stock and stayed for a chat, Andi and numerous other peeps made the day FLY by.

We are looking after this beautiful little laminex table for friends of ours and it is just the perfect size to fit into a little corner in our dining room.
I have not had my machine set up for ages and therefore found it hard to get it together to sit down and make stuff. I have a few things on the go at the moment and hope that my machine now having a permanent home makes a big difference.

I've nearly cut out all of my templates. I photocopied my pattern and then laminated the templates - makes for good accuracy and saves a heap of time (thanks Fi)

I am keeping the fabric choice super simple and the background and inner fabric is denim -- I hope it works!

Had a really chilled past few days -- life still throws things at ya BUT it's all how you handle it.

Nic and 2/3 of her girls came to spend the night/day at our place. Sooooo much excitement in the air -- I think the girls went to sleep at around 11pm! Nic and I stayed up and ate choc chip icecream and watched Sex and the City 2 (it was painful).
Woke up, bummed around chatting, drinking tea and sharing ace books. Made the girls some Ninja Turtle GREEN playdough and then went to the playground and ended it all off with a GOOD coffee. Whew!!

We went to see the AMAZING Kitty,Daisy &Lewis last night and they did not dissapoint. The last time we saw them was at the corner Dec 09. Henry Wagons was the support act and he was as charismatic as ever (can't wait to hear their new album in April). It was a VERY early gig - we got there at 7pm and it was all over by 10pm -- my kind of time frame these days!

We had a couple of relaxed days at home. We finally bought ourselves a lawnmower so Sime and Molly did the yard. Daisy and I slept and slept and slept.

Nan gave me this fabric and I LOVE what I've used it for -- it covers up half of our "box room" which is attached to our dining room - it makes me smile each and every time I walk past.

Sime and I have an office now in our place. The girls have been sharing a room for the past two months ( so far, so good). We just have so much STUFF! It's been nice to get organised and have a place for things and not have the computer in our BEDROOM anymore!

I've pulled some fabric out and am looking forward to starting my freestyling class at amitie.

whew! thank goodness I can mentally reboot for 2011. 2010 was a FULL ON YEAR! Now giving birth to Daisy was a highlight and loosing dad was a lowlight. I had forgotten how much baby brain wipes you and subsequently the last part of 2010 was a right off. I've just got to learn to slow the f&%k down! I'm slowly getting the message - that I don't have to do everything - 2011 is the year to try balance! I'm either full on or full off - so balance is the magic word.

It was Dads funeral yesterday. It was small and intimate. One of Dad's friends from the Navy came and spoke and then The Last Post was played. Moving stuff I tell ya!
I am learning so much about my dad since he's been gone - we had a rather interesting relationship throughout the years. I held his hand while he was dying and I have no regrets only new found compassion. Life is too short as the saying goes - to short for regrets and holding onto resentments.

It's been just over 5 months

since Daisy graced us with her presence.

She has just started checking out food and we have turned her in the baby bjorn. I had a friend say to me just before I gave birth - that I could definitely write off this year -- she was right! what a daze it has been so far -- awesome -- but tripped out non the less.
Nothing seems to matter other than being with my family and spending time with my friends.
Molly has thrived in prep this year - her vocab and reading sky rocketing. She is such a good "big sister". We didn't think we would ever have a second child, and if things start to get all too hard - i just need to remember to practice gratitude.

Jane Brocket has a relatively new book called, "The Gentle Art of Quilt Making" and it is every bit as divine as the first book I ever bought of hers "The Gentle Art of Domesticity".

Jane's blog Yarnstorm has been a regular read for me for years now.

There are 15 different quilt projects in the book and with each one Jane tells a little story about the fabrics, the process and a why she was inspired to make it.
My favourite in the book would have to be the Florals. I am not girly AT ALL but there is something about this quilt that speaks to the "girly girl" deep down inside!!!!

Waiting on my Dr Suess fabric to arrive but at the moment I'm thinking of using the Wagon Wheel pattern ( like Molly's first quilt made by Mumma T). Depending on the size of the pattern on the fabric. Eagerly awaiting delivery...

Sitting here at my computer with Daisy on my lap singing to Jen Clother!

We walked to school today and took the long way home and got back @ 10am. Instead of seeing walking as a chore, I try and use it to filter my thoughts.

I've decided for the next TWELVE days I am going to do some things that I know make me feel great inside & out BUT if I though about having to do it every day for the rest of my life I would FREAK - So for the next twelve days I am going to try the following:

#1 One espresso
#2 Walk at least one way to/from school
#3 Call a friend to see how they are doing
#4 No chocolate, cakes or biscuits
#5 Get out of bed and start the day at 6am

#6 Schedule time to do some hand sewing
#7 Write my morning pages
#8 Write a blog post here & on mixtape
#9 Work on Issue 13
#10 Leave comments on blogs i like
#11 Only eat home cooked meals
#12 Have porridge & yoghurt each morning

It's been two weeks today since we moved house. It is still not the way I want it BUT I have unpacked a hell of a lot. We still could do with giving away "stuff". In our old house we had an office - now it's all in our bedroom (mmm romantic).

I love the energy flow of our new place - the lounge room especially. Being the clutter heads we are, we have decided that one room will be minimalist - the lounge. Well I'm trying anyhow!

A house that has been sick for over a week now.
A preppie that has had two school concert performances this week is today having a rest day at home.
No TV - just the radio and playing outside in the sunshine discovering "bugs & seeds" in her new garden.
Baby girl catching up on much needed sleep and mum feeling good about things in general since chatting with Cath last night.

Cath and I went and had a coffee at a little cafe around the corner from her house last night. We met "online" 4 years ago through craft blogging and have become great friends.
Wrapping up mixtape has made me reflect on all the amazing peeps I have met and the awesome things that have happened along the way - feeling pretty blessed right now~!

I bought "Prudence" from a shop in East St Kilda about three or so years ago. She is a handmade original Christina Gordon doll. Beautifully made - awesome detail and delicate stitches.

Christina Gordon was one of my first "online" discoveries back in 2004. I am soooooo honoured to have both Christina & Amy Karol designing the last printed Issue of mixtape.

We moved house just over a week ago. It's two streets away in a QUIET street in suburbia. One of the first things I noticed about our house was the front entrance hall.

I've put some special items on it:

**The bottle of Moet that Simes parents celebrated his birth with in 1973 - that got damaged in the fire they week after we got married.
**The bottle of red with us on the label we got from Damo for our Engagement present.
**Lots of other bits and pieces from Hawaii.
We are still surrounded by boxes but I feel like everything is coming together.
I have been able to do some work on mixtape and I have got my hand sewing unpacked and hope to make a start back on my block of the month.

We went to Mollys school concert last night - it brought a tear to my eye - so very proud. Blossoms in full bloom at her school also - happy times.

The first day of spring today - although it still feels like winter.
Spring is my favourite time of year.
We all start to come out of hibernation.
We have just moved house and I feel like it's the start of a new chapter in our lives.
Our Internet just got connected back up after 6 days of not having it - I feel complete again (sad I know).
I'm really going to try and write more here on my blog.
So many changes this year already - shedding of things that no longer work - shifting gears - slowing down - throwing out unnecessary STUFF

After taking a long time to think about things and after talking to people close to us, we have decided to finish up the printed version of mixtapezine this October 2010.
What began as a cool little idea early 2007 grew and grew and grew and grew. It has become so much more than we ever anticipated. That is because of the craft community that embraced mixtape with open arms.

mixtape has been a labour of love from the get go and has been worth every single minute that has been pored into it over the past 3 years.
With a new baby on board in our household and the plethora of crafty goodness EVERYWHERE now – we have decided to go out on a HIGH!

Issue 13 will be out August 16 (FINALLY) thanks to everyone for your patience on this issue (it’s been a tough one).
Issue 14 out October 18 will be our last printed issue and
Issue 15 out Dec 6 will be a MEGA last issue ever of mixtape – in a PDF version only.

This is such a sad and yet exciting time - I have poured my heart & soul into mixtape and have learn't so much along the way.
I will be contacting all subscribers individually – please feel free to email me directly with any questions.

This is not the end for the mixtape brand – we have a few things in the planning stage for 2011.

Yep! That's me.
I started this quilt over THREE years ago - slowly and surely putting it together.
When it came to the applique part I rushed it and messed it up - I got pissed off with myself and threw it in the "later" pile!
Fast forward three years later I am ready to give it the love it deserves.

I am re doing the applique & putting the top back together.
I purchased the cream and brown dot for the backing and the green and white stripe for the binding. Hand quilting with perle eight green & orange.
Quilt measures 200 x 210 - it is for our bed. Batting will be the dreamy wool one from amitie $35 per meter but sooooooo worth it!

First things:
It was suggested to me by a friend that I get a mixtape page up on facebook. I had no idea the power of facebook (call me naive). There is so much "out there" now. When I first started my typepad blog in 2005 it was kind of like a secret life - now I feel like I am drowning in social networking sites - your thoughts???

We caught up with Nic and her girls today - good coffee and YUMMY homemade cake.
The girls played in the park and Nic and I tried to fit in as much conversation as we could into two hours.
A bit of shopping was done at amitie and I will be posting about my efforts there tomorrow!!

6am really is the best time of the day~ Seriously! The birds are chirping, the sun has just come up and all is quiet in the house (except for RRR on the radio).
We have a little ritual in our home - we all sit on the couch and do the morning feed together - simple and special times. This is the last baby for us and I'm trying to enjoy every moment.

I had two quilts I wanted to finish before the end of this month. I've been helping a friend out with her web/blog and she kindly offered to machine quilt and bind my two projects - in fact she insisted.
I picked them up today and they look fab! Hand quilting is my preferred look BUT it's not always possible to time wise. Both these quilts (in fact all our quilts) are to be lived&loved and used daily so the machine option was very sensible!

Molly has been waiting nearly TWO years for her Hungry Caterpillar Quilt and Baby #2 will be getting "Gina's Nina" Quilt for her birth arrival. Thanks Quilting Fairy, every girl should have one!

Caught up with a friend of mine today who is due around the same time as me. This will be her first child and understandably she is feeling a bit like "What The?" She has been a career woman for the past 20 years and is wondering what the next stage of her life is going to entail. I who know nothing (the more I know the less I know) had only one suggestion for her today "Buddhism for Mothers" and the saying "Control is only an illusion". You know what? I'm taking my own advise leading up to this new life that is about to bless us.

The little lady is back to school tomorrow morning, Hallelujah!!! We have had a great couple of weeks but both she and Sime & I are ready for school routine! The changes in her in just one term of school have been BIG! She is learning how to become independent, to read, to make and be part of friendship groups (that she is not the be all and end all) - participate in sport, music,art and be a part of the community. The bonus of all that is we have met some great families who we actually want to spend time with also! Oh I and I love the readers and all the things that come home - it's like starting all over again :)

I thought we had a name picked out - we have narrowed it down to FIVE ahhhhh! Will need to get another circle for my necklace.

Easter Break

This is the first time in a few years we have not gone camping with our friends. I was sad about it but it's actually been really nice to stay home with the family and it's like a ghost town around the burbs so therefore very peaceful.

We had breakfast at our friends/neighbours house yesterday morning and the kids had a Easter Egg Hunt out in the back yard. I made the 3 girls all a little bag for their eggs and a badge - very very simple and cute.

Crazy Jen a VERY GOOD friend of the family is down from Sydney at the moment and gave baby this cute little hat and matching socks. Not long to go now - the countdown is on. Molly also has a blankie and she wants baby to have the same - So I put the binding on that yesterday and Molly will give it to baby in hospital.

NINE years ago today we were married. We had our wedding in a friends garden with about 100 friends - Dingo was our dj for the arvo/night and a good time was had by all.
Sime and I met when we were 25, so I'm thinking we have been together for 11 or 12 years. That is the longest I have stuck with anything!! He is the best boyfriend I've ever had (and I had a few!) and I am still in awe of him and inspired each and everyday --- although his moodiness could take a holiday..

I love my music - it has kept me company throughout my 36 years. I tend to be a bit of a loner and don't mind my own company - with the help of music! I remember one of the things that helped me feel connected to the outside world when I first had Molly was RRR radio. What a transition it is being a full time worker to then become a full time housewife/mummy. I only now think I have some sort of balance with that.

I've got a few more weeks until I give birth to #2 and I have nearly wrapped up all my TO DO things like The Kids Issue, Henry Dolls, School stuff, Tax and the like. I picked up my Block Of The Month on the week-end and have started to get back into it. Oh the power of hand piecing and needle turn applique :)

My blood pressure is rising and I need to set some boundaries...

Only a few weeks to go and I will no longer be known as "the pregnant lady" at school. Jeez! I'm going to get a t-shirt made up with velcro numbers to let people know how many days I have left!! In all seriousness though this is the part I remember from last time - the last 3 weeks feeling like 3 months!!
I've been busy tying up loose ends - sewing for the baby room and now want to spend the next two weeks being involved and present in Molly's school holiday action. She has a list of things she wants to do! Starting with homemade playdough this afternoon in 5 different colours. We bought her a trampoline a few weeks ago so here's hoping she spends a lot of time on it also!!!

NEKO CASE love love love - girl crush!
I've seen her live a couple of times now and her voice is so god damn good it kills me. She was so born to be a singer - I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

A friend of mine made up a special blend for me to burn:
Lavender, Geranium, Mandarin & Roman Chamomile.
It is a great combination for relaxation, peace, easing worries & concerns and creating an optimistic outlook.

A very special friend-it's been a long time :( - introduced me to this band many moons ago. I am currently at home doing paper work & listening to this 10/10 album VERY loud. I feel a bit flat and overwhelmed - so ACTION is the magic word for today (although I do feel like just having a sleep).
